All Aboard the USS Enterprise NCC 1701
The mission of the crew of the Star Trek USS Enterprise NCC1701 is "to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before". The USS Enterprise NCC1701 was led by Captain James T. Kirk. The USS Enterprise NCC1701 is well-loved by Star Trek fans, who recognize it as a fictional starship in the Star trek television series and movies.
The design of the USS Enterprise NCC1701 is said to be one of science fiction's most iconic images. A refit version of the USS Enterprise NCC1701 can be seen in the first three Star Trek movies. For the 2009 Star Trek film, which was set in a parallel, alternate timeline, the USS Enterprise NCC1701 was oversized and redesigned.
The original USS Enterprise NCC 1701 was designed by Star Trek art director Matt Jeffries. In the outline of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry for the first series, the USS Enterprise was initially called Yorktown. Matt Jeffries had experience with aviation, so the designs for the USS Enterprise had what he termed aircraft logic. The registry number NCC-1701 came from the letters NC being one of the international aircraft registration codes that is used for aircraft that is registered in the United States.
