The Federation’s Star Ship: Enterprise

The USS Enterprise D is commissioned in the 24th cenruty and appeared in the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series. The ship also appeared in the pilot episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, in the series finale of Star Trek: Enterprise, and in the movie Star Trek: Generations. It is the fifth star ship of Federation to be named Enterprise. It is also called the Galaxy-class Enterprise.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard was the captain of the USS Enterprise 1707-D. The proportion of the D ship is different from the original Enterprise although it retained the dual wrap nacelle and the saucer section appearance. Saucer separation allows the Enterprise to separate for subsequent docking or for leaving the civilian population behind during combat. In cases when there are no civilians in the star ship, having two separate ships serve as an advantage during battle. The main bridge of the ship is on deck one but it had a secondary bridge on deck eight for instances of saucer separation. The secondary bridge also has a secondary hull that contains armaments. The ship also contains laboratories and departments for stellar cartography, exobiology, cetology, astrophysics, cybernetics, archaeology, cultural anthropology, botany, hydroponics, and planetary geosciences studies.

Its armaments include twelve type X phaser arrays mounted on the cobra head of the secondary hull and three photon torpedo launchers placed on the ventral aft of the saucer. The launchers could fire ten individual torpedoes at a time. Enterprise-D also has a capacity shield grid. It has about eight transporter rooms and 20 transporter systems. Because of its scientific and research missions, sometimes civilians like doctors and scientists are on board with their families.
