The Science of the USS Dumont
The USS Dumont NCC69152 is part of the Oberth class of ships, which was designed specifically for use as a Science Vessel, a transport ship, and for medical purposes.
The Oberth class may be named after Hermann Oberth, a German physicist who was born in Austria-Hungary. He is known as the founder of modern rocketry. The Oberth effect is also named after Hermann Oberth. This is a useful principle in Astronautics. It states that when a rocket engine traveling at high speed is used, a lot more useful energy is produced than a rocket traveling at low speed.
The Oberth effect happens when a propellant has more usable energy. This is because it possesses kinetic energy in addition to its chemical potential energy. Thus, the vehicle is able to use this kinetic energy to produce more mechanical power. The Oberth effect is used in a powered flyby known as an Oberth maneuver. Once a rocket engine is used and an impulse is applied from this source close to a gravitational body there is a higher change in the body's kinetic energy and final speed.
Not much is known about the USS Dumont NCC69152, although its stunning colors make it a fan favorite. Like the Enterprise, the USS Dumont NCC69152 is a prominent, saucer-shaped ship. It has a gray color. The USS Dumont NCC69152 also possesses bright blue and red light on its thrusters.
