The Secrets of Commader T’Pol

Commanded T’Pol is a Vulcan who serves as the science officer of the starship USS Enterprise. She is played by Jolene Blalock.

Originally, a younger version of T’Pau was supposed to serve on the USS Enterpeise. But due to legal difficulties in using the character from the original series, the producers made T’Pol instead. Commander T’Pol is the first Vulcan officer to serve a long time on a human vessel. Before her, the previous Vulcan only served for ten days. But Commander T’Pol would serve fro 10 years aboard the USS Enterprise, from 2151 to 2161. She was the subcommander of the Vulcan High Command when she was sent to watch Captain Jonathan Archer and his crew. The Vulcan High Command thought that Captain Archer and his crew were not ready to explore interstellar space. The initial mission of the USS Enterprise was a success. This led to an extended exploration mandate. Commander T’Pol requested to stay onboard the ship.

Commander T’Pol was constantly being recalled by her superiors in order to bring her back to Vulcan. She would eventually resign from the Vulcan High Command. In 2154, she accepted a field Commission from Starfleet. She was named to the Starfleet field rank of Commander. At first, her crew mates were suspicious of her and they resented her. However, Commander T’Pol eventually earned their trust. She was initially perceived to be a spy for the Vulcans.
