Dr Julian Bashir in DS9

Dr. Julian Bashir is a human character in Star Trek who possesses genetc alterations. He is a Lieutenant under the Federation Starfleet. He serves as Chief Medical Officer in Deep Space 9 Uss Defiant.

Bashir was born to Richard and Amsha Bashir in 2341. He has no siblings or other family in the series except his great grandmother, Watley and his parents. He was originally named Jules but he changed it to Julian at age 15. When he was five years old he performed his very first surgery on hs teddy bear named Kukalaka by re-stuffing it. As one of his most prized possessions, Julian continued to take the teddy bear wherever he goes even as an adult as we can see in the episode ‘The Quickening.’

He had difficulty learning as a child which brought his parents to decide to bring him in Adigeon Prime during 2348. He went into a treatment called ‘accelerated critical neural pathway formation’ to manipulate his genetic structure in order to accelerate neuronal network growth in the cerebral cortex. Over the two weeks of treatment, the IQ level of Julian increased by five points. There was also an improvement with his hand-eye coordination, reflexes, vision, stamina, height, and weight.

Although he was afraid of doctors as a child, Bashir became a doctor after studying under the Starfleet Medical Academy and became captain. He was able to design a candy bar with far more nutritional value than the food combat rations. He chose to become a crew of the Starfleet DS9 rather than spend his time on research. His character was played by Alexander Siddig.
